Analysis of temporal-spatial characteristics of wildfire in Hunan province during Qingming Festival

Multi-source of wildfire events and transmission line wildfire alarm data are used to analyze temporal-spatial characteristics of wildfire of Qingming Festival (Tomb-sweeping festival) period Hunan province, which is located in Hunan province of China. Fires caused by human activities such as burning paper or firecrackers when sweeping their ancestors’ tombs are the main reason for the high-incidence of wildfires during Qingming Festival period. The quasi-bimodal character of the occurrence time of wildfire events near the transmission lines is mostly induced by ashes reburning when people left the tombs for dinner without extinguish the fire thoroughly. The southern part of Hunan province suffers from wildfire more seriously than the northern part spatially speaking. Three regions with high risk of wildfire hazards are found. Different wildfire patterns are analyzed which mainly caused by different local folk customs of each region. This work lay solid foundation of the decision-making as to the prevention and reduction of wildfire hazards near transmission lines.
