A Battery Management System (BMS) has been developed at the Technical University of Berlin. It has been designed for use in Electric Vehicles (EV) powered with lead-gel batteries. For Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) the load-profile changes dramatically. Advanced batteries like NiMH or lithium-ion require a cell related BMS. The knowledge about the State-Of-Charge (SOC) and the State-Of-Health (SOH) gets more and more important.rnThis paper summarizes the requirements for a BMS to meet the different demands. A realization of a modern BMS including a SOC algorithm is outlined.
