The trimaran has caught our attention as a kind of unconventional and high-performance model ship, and some countries with advanced capability of shipbuilding have put a mass of Human and material resources.The trimaran has been applicated not only in the field of military but also in the field of civil that started to occupy his own place.the layout of side hull position has always been the hot spot which will be put into research.In this paper, one of a kind of trimaran model is selected to do the drag resistance test under the changing angle of the main body and lateral body by selecting some different layout of side hull position,coming to conclusion that the changing trend of the trimaran's residual resistance with different layout of side hull position,then with the comparison and analysis.we find out the layout of side hull position under which the trimaran will get the least resistance under a given speed. At last,the author have estimated the effective horsepower curve which applicated in the 5500t real ship.
