Throughout history, asteroids have been a constant threat to the global way of life. There have been a series of events ranging from close-calls to actual Earth impacts, and still, few actually pay any attention to this phenomena. Recent occurrences have not only brought this possible catastrophe to light, but have garnered political notice. The Global Last-Line of Defense System (GOLD) looks to take advantage of this awareness, along with the surplus of nuclear technology, to provide a possible solution to this threat. By employing existing interceptor technology, GOLD will aim to detonate a nuclear warhead just behind an incoming asteroid, essentially giving the object a push, and thus averting the threat.
