In the past, X-ray computed tomography (X-U.CT) has been used to visualize the 3D microstructures of porous bio-based materials. This technique is limited to micron or sub-micron scale resolution The computed tomography technique has now been extended to other imaging tools such as Transmission Electron Microscopy. Here, we evaluate the use of TEM-CT to visualize and characterize the nano-scale structure of biomass. This technique can be useful in studying the cell wall ultrastructure of biomass and how they change during oe biomass conversion methodologies.
