Dam Safety Challenges in Florida

Dam safety challenges in Florida can be related to the state topography, and because of this, it is imperative that as dam professionals we must notice the things that can go wrong in an impoundment that may ultimately cause its failure, or reap the consequences in the aftermath as noted by different dam failures in the state. This paper will discuss the topography of Florida and its relation to dam failure, ways to prevent dam failure, and instances of failure we have learned from, such as the Florida Power & Light Company Martin County Cooling Power Plant embankment failure and the Crescent Lake Dam failure in Pensacola.
