Metro Doha-Continuous Tunnel Belt Application for One of the World's Largest Infrastructural Projects (A Challenge)

No matter if infrastructural projects for utility purposes such as sewer, cable, hydro power tunnels or for traffic purposes such as road, railway or metro tunnels, first choice would be a mechanized tunnel drive with a TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine). Continuously extendable belt conveyors belong to the key equipment which lead to success in tunneling. Separating the ways of logistic of mucking out by conveyors and supplying the TBM on Rails or wheels is the first step to high performance and a safe operation This has been proven and is going to be continued, meaning continuously extendable tunnel belt conveyors are state of the art for mechanized tunneling.This paper will introduce to one of the world largest infrastructural projects of time and explain the implementation of continuously extendable tunnel belt conveyor systems for 64km of tunnel. The distinctive climatic conditions were an additional challenge toovercome.
