GEC ALSTHOM's considerations on large air cooled hydro-generators

Most hydrogenerators can achieve the required performances using either air cooled or water cooled technology. Owing to its simplicity, the air cooled system is often prefered by utilities compared to the more complex water cooling system, thus avoiding additional maintenance requirements. Benefiting from a long experience in the design and manufacture of large generators, GEC ALSTHOM has taken the customer's wishes into account and has developed effective means to ensure an excellent service life for air cooled generators even at the highest rating. This performance is particularly demonstrated by the behaviour of the generators for GUANGZHOU Pumped Storage Power Station for example.
