Carrier effects on oxygen mass transfer behaviors in the MBBR

This study investigates the carrier effects on the oxygen mass transfer behaviors of gas-liquid of the biofilm surface, and aims to provide academic evidence for parameter optimization in practical operation of moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) during the coking wastewater processing. By using the dynamic oxygen dissolution method, the volumetric oxygen mass transfer coefficient KLa was measured with the varying of suspended carrier stuffing rate and the intensity of aeration. The results showed that within the range of fluidizable flow rate, the efficiency of oxygen mass transfer increased with the material packing ratio, and the KLa arrived its peak value when the packing ratio was at 40% with different aeration intensity. KLa has the increasing trend with an increase of the aeration intensity, but high aeration intensity was not favor to the reactor operating.
