Study the preparation and properties of EVA-g-PU/OMMT nanocomposites

A new type nanocomposites of EVA-g-PU/MMT was synthesized through the method of chemical modification and melt intercalation. The structures and properties of EVA-g-PU/MMT nanocomposites were characterized by FTIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The results showed that the PU prepolymer was grafted on EVA main chains successfully, the thermal stabilities and storage modulus of EVA-g-PU/MMT nanocomposites were enhanced, and the MMT was dispersed in the polymer matrix in nanoside. Mechanical testing showed that the tensile strength and tear strength of EVA-g-PU/OMMT nanocomposites were far superior to pure EVA.
