Preparation and characterization of foam-nickel-modified electrode used in electrochemical reductive dechlorination

In order to improve the electrocatalytic activity of the electrode used in electrochemical reductive dechlorination, palladium/polymeric pyrrole film (Sodium dodecyl sulfonate)/foam-nickle (Pd/PPy(SLS)/foam-Ni) electrode with high electrocatalytic activity was prepared by electrochemical deposition at ambient temperature, and the effects of sodium dodecyl sulfonate on the electrochemical catalytic activity were studied. The optimum preparation conditions of the Pd/PPy(SLS)/foam-Ni electrode are electrodepositing current density of 7.9 mA/cm 2 and electrodepositing time of 35 min. Cyclic voltammetry results indicate that, compared with that of Pd/PPy/foam-Ni electrode(about -150.36 mA), the hydrogen adsorption peak current value of Pd/PPy(SLS)/foam-Ni electrode is very large, about -205.24 mA. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images reveal that, with the addition of anion surfactant-sodium dodecyl sulfonate, the surface of Pd/PPy(SLS)/foam-Ni electrode presents fine nanometer wire-like configuration. This configuration increased the catalytic sites of electrode surface and made a cheerful prospect of catalytic degradation capability.
