Adsorption or inclusion behavior of small molecules to polymeric metal complexes was investigated. Polymers containing paramagnetic metalloporphyrin moieties in their side chains (5-(4-acrylamidephenyl)-10,15,20-triphcnylporphinato-metal (AATPP-M)) adsorbed oxygen, argon, and other gaseous molecules. Copper carboxylato complexes formed clathlate compounds which included butadiene, 1-propyne, and other gaseous monomer. Polymerizations of butadiene and related vinyl and diene compounds were tried by γ-ray irradiation. Although the yield of polymer was very low, high polymers were obtained from the polymerization of butadiene.
