The progress of energy saving & emission reduction at Tangshan Steel since the new century is reviewed in this paper.Under serious double challenges from environment relocation and world financial crisis,the largest scale environmental improvement and process restructuring through history have been carried out at Tangshan Steel.Eliminating outdated devices,applying energy saving technologies,such as CDQ,TRT,dry-type de-dusting of BF,waste heat recovery from sinter cooler,comprehensive utilization of by-product gases were promoted through energy efficiency benchmarking.And for improving environmental performance,enhancing the de-dusting at different levels,equipping desulfuration technology for sintering machine,etc.were more concerned.For developing social function,the treatment system for civil sewage and industrial waste water with total capacity of 150 thousand m3/day were put into operation in 2009.Compared with 2005,the energy efficiency was improved by 30%,self-power generation ratio was improved by 280%,the fresh water consumption per ton steel reduced about 65.6%,the specific dust emission was reduced by about 86.6%,the specific SO2 emission was reduced by 70.3% and the greenery coverage of Tangshan Steel was increased from 21% to 50%.In a word,the environment at Tangshan Steel was greatly improved.In the future,Tangshan Steel would devote itself to the exploration on supplying low-temperature waste heat to communities and so on,and build a suburban eco-steel plant.
