A Roll Shop Intergrated System for Automated Roll Hanoling and Evaluation of Quality and Performance of Rolls

In a Roll Grinder and Roll Shop Automation paper presented in 1996 there was already an indication of future roll shop trends, mainly the move towards reduced manpower and the need for comprehensive automation to achieve this objective. Such a move disctates the use of state of the art CNC roll grinders with dedicated roll measuring and inspection system, preferably on a carriage separate from the grinding carriage, active roll pair profiles, machine vibration monitoring, remote operator location, and stored roll data.
