Automated roll handling and processing in roll shops

摘要

For economic roll grinding an automated roll shop comprising operations, such as roll cooling after withdrawal from the mill, measuring systems for geometry, surface status and metallurgical defects roll loaders, chock indexers, roll grinding and roll storage, has been developed. A comprehensive computer system schedules the grinding sequence, roll transport and readiness for use.The system has proved successful in many rolling mills, e.g. at AST Terni (Italy) and Corus (The Netherlands).
