This paper describes the feasibility ofreinforcing the LVL flanges of structural I-joinsts with fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) to increase flange strength by 20-30 percent. The development of this FRP was deiven by the cost effectiveness of the reinforcement constituents while still maintaining the basic LVL manufacturing process. A satisfactory E-glass composite reinforcement for LVL has been developed that meets APA and ASTM standards for both strength and durability of the FRP-to-wood-veneer bond.
