IETF has developed the NEtwork MObility Basic Support (NEMO BS) protocol to handle mobility of an entire mobile network. When used in Aeronautical Passenger Communications (APC), the NEMO BS and the existing route optimization (RO) schemes face some problems such as end-to-end delay, high signaling overhead or high load of the home agent. This paper presents a scheme named APCRO to optimize the route of NEMO especially for APC. The key points of our mechanism are to establish an Access Router (AR) to correspondent node (CN) RO scheme to optimize the path on the ground and to update the user's location by the home agent of the mobile router. The evaluation and the comparison with other mechanism illustrate the proposed scheme has the shortest end-to-end delay and smallest signaling overhead within the short-delayed schemes, so it is feasible and suitable for APC.
