Design Basis for Cable Stayed Bridge over Yamuna River India

摘要

The Yamuna Bridge at Allahabad, India has been designed with a 490m cable stayed concrete deck having a central main span of 260m which almost doubles the span range for concrete bridges in current application in India. Therefore, it was decided to accept a change in design standard diverging significantly from current Indian design practise. The most important divergence was introduction of limit state design according to CEB-FIP Model Code 1990. On this basis load factors and partial safety factors for materials were developed in the Design Basis for the project, whereas characteristic values of various loadings like traffic, wind and seismic were adopted according to Indian codes. In addition to a new design standard other design aspects diverging from current Indian practise were introduced such as added accent on aesthetics, environmental compatibility and landscaping. As such this bridge may prove to be a pathfinder in this context.
