Preface: Overcoming Opacity in Machine Learning

摘要

AI systems developed using machine learning (ML) are notoriously opaque: it is difficult to know why they do what they do or how they work. Opacity arises not only because many of these systems are high-dimensional and complex, but also because software developers do not themselves determmine the parameter values that drive their behavior.
