Lithium metal is considered as the most promising anode material for high-energy-batteries due to its high theoretical capacity and low electrochemical potential. However, dendrite formation due to uncontrollable Li growth during cycling is a major challenge. Lithium dendrite growth leads to low coulombic efficiency, short cycle life, and safety issues. To solve the problem, addition of 2D carbon nano material that lead uniform Li deposition has been reported. Here, we report carbon nanodots (CND) as an electrolyte additive which can suppress dendrite growth and keep stable Li metal deposition/dissolution process. CND has defect sites and functional groups that attract Li ions and serve as a Lithiophilic nucleation site for uniform nucleation.
