The efficiency of engine and drive train has a significant impact on fuel consumption, emissions and the performance of a vehicle. Therefore it is necessary to determine the efficiency of the individual components of the drive train as part of the typical development process. This is generally done on test stands specially designed for this type of task. To utilize the advantages of cost efficient endurance test rigs for efficiency measurements and still achieving the required quality of the results, an automated method for determining the efficiency of various types of transmissions was developed. Focus is laid on the optimization of the measurement method and the measurement process while improving the accuracy of the torque measurement technology. In the presentation, the measurement technique, the measurement methodology and procedures are presented and discussed with respect to the relevant influences to the measurement uncertainty.
