Localization and navigation according to the mine map and generating the drill plan at the face of the drift – Experiences from the bilateral Boliden and Atlas Copco project to develop a system based on distributed decision-making in the mining process. The operator of the drill rig creates himself the drill plan just at the face in the drift, based on the location of the drill rig displayed on-line in the cabin. Planning data is transferred from the Microstation based CAD and planning system directly into the drill rig in the mine. Planning data is combined with supplementary information on the ore boundaries from the geologists, on the previous levels and on previously excavated volumes in the drift. The drilling result is directly reported from the drill rig into the CAD system. Additional examples are from Outokumpu OY's mine in Kemi, where planning data are exported directly from Surpac CAD system into the drill rigs. The drill rigs are networked for fast access to the latest data. In LKAB mine in Kiruna the production drill rigs, Simba W_6C are networked in order to receive planning data, report production results and also to supervise the autonomous operations. Today these systems are operational in mines in Sweden and Finland; still they are applicable to tunneling projects as well.
