The stresses on the materials for sliding contacts are extraordinarily complex. In addition to the usual and numerous requirements from an electrical point of view like contact resistance, contact erosion, bonding tendency etc., a number of tribophysical aspects are also to be considered: friction, wear, appropriate material pairing for the parts under friction etc.
