The concept of meshing conjugate face-gear pairs is proposed. The generation of meshing face-gear tooth surfaces with a mutually conjugate shaper is established. Principal relations between meshing face-gears and the shaper are developed. The orientation of the shaper with respect to meshing face-gear pair axis of rotation is identified. One of the meshing face-gears must be an internal face-gear and the other must be an external face-gear at high shaft angles of the Pericyclic Variable-speed Transmission. The geometry and the dimensions of the conjugate face-gears are established.Unloaded meshing kinematics of the face-gear to face-gear meshing is assessed. The tooth surface normals, axodes of meshing, and the sliding velocities are formulated. The unloaded tooth kinematics results are used to verify the conjugacy of the meshing face-gears.
