Relationship between the pulp yield, bleachability and cooking conditions of Loblolly pine

We observed that, for pulps of similar kappa, the % EA applied can influence shives, brownstock brightness and hexenuronic acid content. The % EA applied did not have a significant effect on yield or pulp carbohydrates. From our bleaching experiments, It appears that the brownstock brightness, independent of kappa, does influence the bleachability of the pulp. Peroxide reinforcement of the EO stage had a positive effect on bleaching demand and effluent color.
