Cucumber (Cucumis Satiuvs L.) seedlings, greenhouse cultivar 'No. 3 Jinchun' and open field cultivar 'No. 7 Longzahuang', were transplanted with supplementary light at different intensity to determine the effect of supplementary light levels on growth and physiological indexes. The results indicated that plant height, leaf area and stem diameter of cucumber seedlings were significantly increased with increasing level of supplementary light. At the same time, supplementary light at cucumber seedling stage led to the increase of chlorophyll content, soluble sugar and protein content and CAT activity. A reduction in POD activity and MDA content with increasing levels of supplementary light was found. Effects of supplementary light on two cultvars were same, but their extent was different.
