Using a full modal vector model, we calculate birefringence, dispersion, and confinement loss in index-guiding photonic crystal fibers, also called holey fibers. Through real-model simulations the polarization-dependent dispersion and confinement loss in actual fiber structures is numerically demonstrated, for the first time to our knowlwdge. Furthermore the transverse-electric-field vector distributions in the fabricated holey fibers are also clarified for the two linearly polarized fundamental modes.
