PROJECT EXPERIENCE WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF AN AUTOMATED DISPATCH SYSTEM

Anneliese Zementwerke AG is engaged in the production of cements and blended products for mining and civil engineering at five sites in Westphalia. Every bulk goods movement requires an entry control, entry and exit weighing, the physical distribution of the goods and commercial processing, for example the drawing up of delivery notes and bills of lading, or invoicing. An examination of the volume of delivery notes alone reveals that for Anneliese Zementwerke AG in 2001 more than 150,000 delivery notes were generated. These include all deliveries of cements and other final products, of clinker, and also the delivery of necessary raw materials, additives and fuels such as slag granulate, fly ash and also high calorific materials. With increasing demand for dispatch availability of almost 24 hours 7 days a week, this volume requires a properly functioning automation system and also a guarantee of availability. Anneliese Zementwerke AG has modernised and standardised dispatch handling at all five sites. A total of four delivery points, two blenders, six weighbridges, 17 service terminals and 43 loading bays have been converted. This presentation firstly outlines the problem definition and target setting for the "Dispatch Automation" project. In the second section, the integration into the IT strategy, the methodological procedure and the project organisation are described. Furthermore, the experience gained will be assessed, and critical factors for success determined. In a project assessment that follows on from this, the achievement of the targets and the main demands placed on the external business partner are assessed.
