Acceptance of optimal operation and control methods for greenhouse cultivation

Using information about crop growth would allow to expand present greenhouse control strategy. After a short description of the greenhouse-crop system, a survey is given of developments presented in the literature. A full solution would require to consider all relevant key variables, i. e. temperature, CO_2 and humidity, as well as the greenhouse dynamics and the short term variations in external conditions. The factors that hamper the acceptance of such solutions are briefly discussed. An analysis is give on simplified approaches resulting from integrating the crop equations over a day or more. This leads to temperature integral control concepts, which, although sub-optimal, are more easily accepted in practive.
