Polling systems have found widespraead aplication in he modeling of computer ocmmunciation ysstems and protocols.As a consequence,a greate deal of effort ha bene devoted to analyzing a varitety of polling mechanisms.In particular,systems for which a limit on the length of time the server may spend while visiting a queue hav erecently been teh ubject of several stuides. For example,protocols and multiplexing schemes for multimedia netowkrds may employ a limit on the amount of time the shared channel is allocated to each type of traffic.
