This paper demonstrates the application of the recently developed damage localization theory to the damage identification of flexible aerospace manipulating systems. The system analyzed is a simulation of a NASA manipulator testbed for the research of the berthing operatio of the Space Shuttle to the Space Station, which consists of two flexible links and three evolute joints. A finiteelement model using ten frame elements, along with the revolute joint element, has been developed to represent the manipulating system. Assume that one of the eleents was damaged, the damage localization criterion has found the exact location of the damaged element.
