In this paper a hot steel mill complex model is developed based on the connecting graph paradigm, which includes a connecting graph in the top level and a hybrid automation in the lower level. Botht eh discrete events and the continuous dynamics are modelled in a unified framework, allowing a better investigation of the interactions between these two parts. The modelling procedure is tehn illustrated by a key sub-process of soaking. Corresponding connecting graphs and the associated hybrid automata are given for the critical components involved in the hot steel millcomplex. Discussion of the merits and potential application of the resulting model are also given.
