Cleaning Products and Indoor Air Quality: A Selection Critieria

Concerns expressed about the affect of cleaning products on indoor air quality in schools prompted a pilot project (begun in 1990) to test alternative, low-toxicity products in a select number of schools where students and/or staff had been identified as environmentally sensitive or where air quality complaints had been frequent. Determining the success of this pilot on other than an anecdotal basis prompted the development of an objective assessment tool: a product selection criteria and matrix.
