The environmental community's increased understanding of the causes and effects of high ozone levels is promoting increased interest in long term oxidant simulations on a regional scale. High-performance computing capabilities have evolved to the point where it is now practical to simulate regional ozone concentrations throughout an entire ozone season. MCNC is simulating ozone concentrations over the eastern U.S. for mid-May through mid-September, 1995 using Penn State/NCAR's mesoscale meteorological model MM5, MCNC's Sparse Matrix Operator Kernel Emissions (SMOKE) Modeling System, and MCNC's Multiscale Air Quality SImulation Platform (MAQSIP).
