Even in a more and more competitive energy market, low head hydropower plants offer an attractive possibility for power generation, especially in the emerging markets of Asia and Latin America. Although equipment costs per installed MW are relatively high, there is a large number of good sites available world-wide, which can be highly feasible due to moderate civil and infrastructure cost and limited environmental impact.
