A simple, cost-effective method for sampling and alaysis of H_2S, COS, mercaptans, organo sufide, and disulfides in whole air samples is described. This method involves ampling sulfur compounds in humidified ambient air using Restek's SilcoCan canisters followed by analysis on a modified gas chromatograph/flame photometric detector (GC/FPD). The stability and "holding times" (i.e. the length of time before the loss of a compound in the dample becomes unacceptable) of these pollutants in humidified air was studied in three different types of canisters: (a): Restek SilcoCan, (b): Electropolished Summa canisters and (c) Tedlar bags. The results show an excellent stability of sulfur compounds in Restek SilcoCan canisters compared to other containers tested. Electropolished SUmma canister showed the least stability for all sulfur compounds.
