In recent years EPA has developed Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy for measuring hazardous air pollutants. Part of this effector was the preparation of a Protocol~1 with the analytical procedures used to interpret infrared spectra for quantitative pollutant measurements. The FTIR Protocol has been used in a number of emissions test programs. In the course of testing, sampling techniques and method validation procedures have been developed. In addition, as part of the EPA program, source-and compound-specific FTR sampling methods have b een developed, which described specific procedures for some spplcations. Until now, there has not been a general FTIR method that gives detailed procedures for measuring HAPs. Under EPA fundig, MRI currently developing such a generic FTIR method.
