Control of Carbonyl Polymer Fouling in Caustic Towers

Olefin producers use caustic scrubbing to remove acid gasses from the cracked gas stream. Unfortunately, this process produces carbonyl polymers (commonly called red oil). The polymer may result in fouling that can cause serious operating problems. These operating problems have increased the interest in chemical treatment programs to reduce the effect of red oil.
