One fiber furnish comprised of 0.8mu average diameter glass microfiber was subjected to handsheet making and drying using metal plates and free drying in lab oven. Sheets dried without plate support showed significantly higher tensile on average as compared to one dried with plate. These results were confirmed using lab scale Fourdrinier machine and multicylinder dryers. This phenomenon was found exactly opposite to laboratory refined cellulose pulp. Handsheet made from refined cellulose pulp showed higher tensile when dried with plate as compared to free dried.
