High capacity sms lines -- equipment design and process concept assuring wide product range

A modular Spunbond / Melt Blown / Spunbond machinery concept is presented. Line speed beyond 250 m/min (820 ft/min) and specific throughputs up to 180 kg/h/m(120 lbs/ft) renders high efficiency. In addition the layout allows parallel processing of Spunbond and Melt Blown. The process optimization preserves the advantages of suction driven systems e.g. low energy consumption (<1 kWh/kg) but allows economical production of fine fibers (<1,5 den). Advantages of metallocene PP and use for fine fibers are discussed.
