A STRIKE-SLIP FORELAND: MESOZOIC BASIN AND ITS EVOLUTION IN LOWER YANGTZE

The Mesozoic basin in Lower Yangtze was a foreland basin of Dabie Orogenic Belt formed in Indo-China epoch. Detrital sediments and volcanic sediments of thickness over 10 km were accumulated in it. The fragments mainly came from the Dabie Orogenic Belt. Basin evolution from Late Triassicto Late Cretaceous was under the control of strike-slip activity of left-handed faults all along. Secondary unlifts and depressions arranging in left-hand en echelon pattern was formed in the basin. A basin system consisting of nine different basins was developed in Late Cretaceous. They display orderly changes both in morphology and in sedimentology aspects, showing the feature of escape tectonic system. The strike-slip rate during Mesozoic was about of 7-10 mm/a.
