In the recent times cloud storage strategies have revolutionized the way data is stored, accessed, modified and distributed remotely in drastic ways. Cloud strategies have taken the world of information by storm and we feel the importance of introducing mechanisms to keep these cloud based services both safe but at the same time not lose any of its performance. In this study we examine the various security measures that have been developed by researchers to keep the cloud environment secure and preserve its integrity. We also acknowledge the potential blockchain has demonstrated in the field of security and we thus leverage the blockchain technology to extend its capabilities to cloud based storage. The concepts of data possession and data deduplication are closely investigated from a cloud storage point of view. This paper illustrates the state of art technologies pertaining to blockchain based security and cloud storage, aiming to integrate them to achieve a more efficient storage solution in a multi user untrusted environment.
