Security beyond Design: Embedding Roots-of-Trust in Silicon and Cryptographically Securing the Supply Chain from Design to Manufacturing

On October 21, 2016 the internet experienced the largest DDoS (distributed denial-of service) attack in history bringing down large portions of the internet to users in Europe and North America. The actors used a Mirai botnet to weaponize common house hold devices such as printers, cameras and baby monitors to bring the internet to its knees costing companies millions of dollars. What we learned from this attack is that consumers cannot adequately protect themselves, leaving devices and the internet vulnerable to attacks.
