CLEAN DEVELOPMENT MECHANISM AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE ON SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN CHINA

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is one of three flexible mechanisms set in the Kyoto Protocol. It enables the industrialized countries to finance the projects in developing countries, which will mitigate the Greenhouse Gases ( GHG) emissions to meet their obligations to reduce atmospheric emissions that contribute to global climate change. China currently is taking an important role in global carbon market. Enacting the Measures for Operation and Management of CDM Projects in China made a great contribution to its CDM projects development in the near past. In the municipal solid waste (MSW) sector, the facilities such as landfill gas recovery and utilization, MSW composting and digestion, etc. , are likely to be implemented as CDM. Through international state-of-the-art technology transfer and by benefit of carbon revenue, China will improve its MSW management to an international level, bringing obvious positive economic, social and environmental effects.
