A Comparative Study of Research Trends relating to Rooftop Landscaping in Japan and Korea by Using the Journal Search System

This research involves an international comparison of rooftop landscaping in Japan and Korea to make clear points of similarity and differences and the direction of such research. The research also aims to clarify the difference in the awareness of rooftop landscaping in the two countries by investigating the results of category analysis and Cumulative KJ method results. The research method used involved the search for keywords using the search system for an electronic library looking for research papers or articles that included the theme of rooftop landscaping, analysing these and comparing the research trends of recent years. The search revealed 405 Research papers/Articles in Japan and 164 Research papers/Article in Korea, over the 20 years from 1980 to 2004. Analysis of this data revealed that both Japan and Korea were most interested in the Planning and Technologies that are involved in rooftop landscaping. The study revealed however that Japan was more interested in how rooftop landscaping worked and its Effects, whereas Korea tended to be more interested in the Planting and Ecology. Search results revealed that in Japan Research papers/Articles on subjects concerning Planting and Ecology and in Korea General studies and Case Studies to be least available.
