A Study on the Landscape Planning of Nanjing Waterfront along the Yangtze River

The environments of Nanjing urban waterfront have integrated the unique elements of mountains, rivers, ancient walls, woods and deltas, and the riverside area were used for industrial production and port transportation. The present scientific landscape planning of the riverside emphasizes its ecological and tourism functions, which would be very beneficial for the further development of Nanjing. Through the analysis on the function evolvement of the riverside in history, the current landscape situations of this area are investigated and studied, and various regional landscape elements are discussed. The guiding idea and principle of landscape planning are proposed, with which the waterfront landscape of Nanjing is divided into six featured parts: the landscape in western region is as modern residential quarter, the Xiaguan waterfront display the transportation harbors and the experiences of city hundreds history, the Mu and Yan Mountain range remain their natural cliff, wild scenery and historical relics, Deltas keep its countryside ecology and picturesque landscape, the Dachang waterfront display the modern industrial scenery, and the Pukou & Zhujiang waterfront display the modern cityscape.
