摘要

Development of a mechanised mine for exploitation of minerals involve investment running in millions of dollars, and is fraught with considerable risk for the stakeholders. "Planning" - the power to look beyond the present, and to visualise the prospects of the future is an essential prerequisite to containment of risks in such a venture. An 'integrated computer aided mine planning and monitoring system' goes beyond Mining sequence, method of work or selection of equipment. It relies on the concept of 'total mine planning'. The concept combines the use of computer aided software tools and practical Mining experience for judicious selection of equipment, appropriate mode of financing and integrates it with industrial, environmental and quality management concepts. The author have conceptualised the mine in green field situation, visualising efficient conversion of Technological and Financial inputs into quantifiable social and economic gains on a self-sustainable basis. The attempt is to illustrate the concept through a case study of Vastan Lignite Mines of GIPCL-SLPP.
