摘要

It has been shown, that SH-guided waves in plates and pipe walls can be reliably used for new NDE-applications of high practical relevance: fast and economic corrosion mapping, sensitive laser weld inspection. The physical properties of SH-waves offer a couple of benefits compared with guided waves polarized in the plane of incidence. The couplant free excitation of these waves by EMATs is a further big advantage for the practical application. Furthermore the selection of the most appropriate modes can be easiliy performed via the excitation frequency.
