Fe/Nd- and Fe/Tb/Nd-multilayers of various Fe-, Tb- and Nd-layer-thicknesses (t_(Fe),t_(Tb),t_(Nd)) have been sputtered and structurally investigated by XRD and TEM. Magnetic measurements have been performed separately [1], The Fe/Nd-films display a profound multilayer structure for t_(Nd) > 10 A. For t_(Nd) < 10 A the multilayer structure is disturbed by the beginning columnar growth of iron. The microstructure of the Fe-layers changes at critical thickness t_(Fe) = 10A...15A from amorphous to polycrystalline textured bcc-Fe. The Fe/Tb/Nd-multilayers show a high coherence of the multilayer periods. Neighbouring layers of Tb and Nd are intermixed, displaying no detectable interfaces. But there is still an increased concentration of Tb or Nd respectively at the interfaces to the Fe-layers.
