The ITER magnet system consists of twenty superconducting Toroidal Field Coils (TF), nine Poloidal Field Coils (PF), a Central Solenoid (CS), sixteen Correction Coils (CC) and Support Structures. The TF coils provide a toroidal field of 5.68 T at the plasma center, while the CS coil and the PF system provide the magnetic field and flux for plasma operation. In the TF coils the conductors are wound in double pancakes inserted into steel plates using the wind, react, insulate and transfer method (WRT). The winding is then enclosed in a thick case. The CS is a 12m monolithic coil with heavy walled square conductors wound in a layer configurating using the WRT technique. Each PF coil is fabricated using double pancakes of square conductors. The magnet system uses suitable structures to support the loads during several phases of operation, plasma disruptions and fault conditions.
